OATMEAL BATH

Do you use oats in your diet? Have you ever thought that they could be great for your skin?

There are quite a few products on the market that contain oat protein, as oats are a wonderful grain that has a beneficial effect on our skin. It is great for the care of oily skin, sensitive and allergy-prone skin that is plagued by itching, so it also works great on sensitive atopic skin.

Oatmeal, according to studies, shows direct antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties – which can help with itching associated with dry and irritated skin.

Oats can remove dead skin cells and act as a natural moisturizer. The beta-glucan it contains forms a fine film on the skin. It also penetrates deep into the skin and provides it with the necessary moisture.

Oats contain compounds called saponins that act as natural cleansers and remove dirt and oil from pores. And they don't cause irritation.

The proteins in oats maintain the skin's natural barrier. They even protect the skin from pollutants and chemicals.

Luckily, I don't have any skin problems, but I really like to take a bath. For me, it's meditation 🙂

ANTI-ITCHING BATH (suitable for atopics)

You will need ground oatmeal. If you can't find it in the store, you can finely grind it yourself in a coffee grinder or blender.

Add 4 tablespoons of ground oats to hot water and mix well with your hands until the water turns white. This will create a real “milk” bath. Wait for the water to cool down a bit, as too hot water can irritate the skin and cause additional itching.

Of course, if you wish, you can also add some cold-pressed oil (hemp, evening primrose, black seed oil, etc.).

OATMEAL BATH PACK

For such a bath, you will need a tea bag or coffee filter, which you can get in better-stocked stores or tea shops, whole oats, salt (Himalayan, regular sea salt, Dead Sea salt), essential oil (optional, depending on your skin type and desired result, e.g. lavender for relaxation, citrus for invigoration). Essential oils do not dissolve in water, so it is important to follow the sequence.

  1. Add oats (about halfway) to a tea bag or sachet.

2. Prepare the salt in a bowl and add a few drops of the desired essential oil (essential oils dissolve in salt). Then add this salt to the top of our wick. Tie it with an elastic band and it is ready to soak. Place it in the bath and let it soak for a while. It is best to place it in the bath while the water is still running, this will avoid a cold bath 😉 😛

Instead of salt and essential oils, you can also add baking soda to the oatmeal, which will balance the pH of your skin and cleanse it.

MINI TIPS : Oatmeal baths are also great for baby care. Of course, only ground oats are used. If diaper rash occurs, you can clean the bottom with cloths that have been previously soaked in oatmeal water.

With finely ground oats, we can also prepare a wonderful nourishing face mask or body wrap. In a bowl where we added ground oats, add a little warm water to make a paste, which we apply to the face or problematic itchy areas of the body and leave on for 15 minutes. The mask is also great for oily and acne-prone skin.
